Women’s Activism: Then and Now

Getting to know courageous female leaders (no matter whether they are in the past or in our present day) simply made me hopeful and empowered for the future of the women’s movement, and the energy I felt lasts after the Unbounded Day.

How does it feel to touch history? Students in the  California Women’s Activism Then and Now went on an in-depth journey about the history of women suffragists. From the Petition of Constitutional Amendment in the 1920s to catalogs of historic correspondence of George Washington, students delved into the Huntington Library and got hands on history dating back to the 1760s. Amazing food from Ding Tan Feng and Thai Orchid Garden added momentum to this researching journey. This Unbounded experience examined both the history and the present day, as students explored historic sources at the Scripps College while talking to modern-day organizers of the Riverside women’s march. Students also got in touch with Christina Prejean’s congressional campaign to flip the seat in San Diego, potentially being the first female veteran from California elected to Congress.
