WSC Wrestling

Wrestling is a sport that a lot of people find entertaining and fun to watch, but don’t understand. While each team only has one athlete on the mat at a time, wrestling is a very team-oriented sport. The athletes practice and work out with each other every weekday, competing against each other in practice matches and during workouts.

To describe the team aspect Jacob Borello (‘19), a first-year wrestler, said “every match can make your team win or lose, so there’s a lot of weight on my shoulders” While observers see wrestling as a test of brute strength, Borrello describes these competitions as a “chess match.” “People might think that wrestling is just about two guys trying to see who can out muscle the other, but instead of like traditional sports where the biggest guy often wins, the wrestler who can see further ahead will always win.”
