Ella Baker

Ella Baker, born in Virginia, was an influential leader in the civil rights movements and fought for universal respect until the day she died on her 83rd birthday. During her youth, Baker attended a college in Shaw where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. While looking for a job after graduation, she became aware of the hardships many were suffering through due to the Great Depression. Baker was able to find her passion towards implementing social improvement during this time. In the 1930s, she joined an organisation that would serve as the place where she find her voice in the upcoming years. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was where Baker made her most significant impact in the civil rights movements, increasing the amount of members and helping the evolution of civil rights activity post World War II.
