Dr. Kevin Riel
Kevin Riel, with his newly earned doctorate, is excited to be a member of the humanities department. This school year, he is teaching Fundamentals of Composition, Advanced Studies The Cold War Era, and Honors Economic Thought in the Modern Age. New to teaching younger teenagers, Mr. Riel hopes to “hone [his] skills as a high school teacher,” drawing experience from educating at a college level. Mr. Riel has also developed a love for creative writing, having worked as a grant writer, speech writer, and, a published poet (click here for two other published pieces). This semester will also be his first year coaching a sport, JV VWS Basketball. Mr. Riel is a California native and a graduate of Claremont Graduate University, but he misses the burritos back home in San Diego. On the weekends, Riel can be found chasing around his two kids, grading papers, or surfing and relaxing at the beach.
