Josephine Burdekin
Born and raised in Claremont, Josephine Burdekin (‘22) is an International Skating Institution (ISI) world champion who has been figure skating for eight years. Her passion for figure skating sparked when she ventured overseas to England on a family holiday. Despite her parents’ initial hesitation to allow her out on the ice, she discovered she was a natural and confident skater. When six-year-old Josephine returned to SoCal from her holiday, her dad signed her up for formal lessons at the Ontario Ice Skating Center. “My favorite part of figure skating is the community. Even though figure-skating is an individual sport, I have made some lifelong friends at the rink who help me whenever I’m feeling down and encourage me when I can’t seem to perfect a move.” Josephine especially loves becoming involved with her rink’s annual summer and Christmas ice shows. Even with juggling a heavy Webb workload, she manages to find the time to spend at least twelve hours per week out on the ice. Josephine participates on the VWS varsity volleyball team and is looking to possibly get a sports exemption in the winter or spring seasons.
