The History of L.A. Through Sports Culture
Whether you are a star player or you prefer cheering on the sidelines, Los Angeles has a niche for you. With popular teams in all five American sports leagues, sports in L.A. encapsulate the rich history of the sports industry in the city. During the three-day Unbounded course, students visited iconic stadiums and venues with Michael Hoe, Director of Studies, and Malick Mbengue, world languages department faculty. On the first day, Tom LaBonge, a former member of LA city council, toured the group at the Rose Bowl. Students spent the following day writing sports columns and watching the Los Angeles Football Club defeat Club Léon 3-0 at the Banc of California Stadium. They revisited the stadium and spoke with a panel of club officials. The group visited the Staples Center and concluded their trip with dinner in a sports pub in the Claremont Village.
