Joy Li (‘24)
Joy Li (‘24) is a new VWS freshmen, living in Shanghai and taking part in the Live Academic Session, or as most of us know them, the Evening Sessions.
“I have really enjoyed my school experience so far,” Joy said. “All of the teachers are very nice and supportive, and most of my classmates are very friendly!”
But, as we returning students know, Webb is hard, particularly in the beginning of the year.
“Honestly speaking, the academics are a bit challenging, especially math. I have never tried Problem Based Learning, so it can be hard getting used to it,” Joy said.
Luckily for Joy, she has had the chance to meet some of her classmates in person.
“I am currently studying in a study center in Shanghai with several other Webb students, therefore I was able to form close relationships with some of the girls,” Joy said.
Besides the study center, Joy has found other places to meet Webb students.
“I think the afternoon activity, the clubs, and the freshman seminar are actually all great ways for us to get to know people, especially freshman seminar,” she explained.
Joy has not been able to participate in many weekend activities, because like many other Webbies, Joy lives a busy life outside of school with extracurriculars and tutoring.
She already has her eye on not only becoming an admissions ambassador, but also a peer advisor.
“I have received a lot of help and strength from our peer advisors, so I want to help the freshman too when I am a junior or senior,” Joy said.
This is great news, because it means that new students still feel the Webb spirit of leadership and generosity while abroad.
“I can feel Webb’s dedication and endeavor to help students to have a good studying experience while keeping us safe,” Joy said. “But overall, I’m trying my best to thrive in this new environment.”
And with that attitude, thrive she will.
