Ta-Nehisi Coates
Ta-Nehisi Coates is a writer and advocate for African American issues. Growing up in Baltimore and attending Howard University helped influence his decision to become a journalist. In 2012, he produced this first cover story for The Atlantic titled “Fear of a Black President.” His articles tackle race issues in the United States, giving a voice to his African American readership. He has been called “the neoliberal face of the black freedom struggle” by the Guardian. Coates is currently working on new pieces, attacking white supremacy and race tensions in the United States. Through his work as a journalist, Ta-Nehisi Coates embodies the Civil Rights movement, giving the people a voice and a cause.
