Karma Griggs

If you have ever passed by Jones on the way to Dr. Greco and Dzula’s house, then you have most definitely seen Karma Griggs painting away at her easel. Her floor-to-ceiling windows let in natural light, and her dorm room is the perfect backdrop for a painting session. Art is Karma’s defining passion, and the subjects she chooses only exemplifies her deep love for her craft. If you can’t find her in her room she is a self-described dorm dweller – then she is probably hard at work on her next project in the media arts studio. However, art is not the only thing Karma is faithful to. When class ends and the Black Affinity Group pours into the studio, Karma transforms into the dedicated and caring leader many know her to be. She has crafted her passion for social justice everywhere; from singing the Black National Anthem at her chapel talk to creating a short film PSA about microaggressions for the whole school. Her leadership spreads beyond her affinity group, as she also teaches freshman seminar as a peer advisor and is team captain on the basketball and track & field teams. Next year, Karma will be taking her characteristic energy across the country to Amherst College where art will continue to be a part of her future, but she hopes to use the open curriculum to explore African American Studies, Crime and Punishment, and even Biology. Right now, she is unsure of how all of these will combine into her future, but she is looking forward to another four years of creativity and fun.

Karma is very honest and very open. She doesn’t change her personality for anyone.
