Ivy+Yan

Ivy Yan

Whether Ivy Yan is playing with her canine friends, grinding at the gym, going on therapeutic Target runs, or impersonating Dr. Martin’s unconventional teaching style, she always wears her favorite whale necklace. A gift from her mom, the tiny silver chain nestling between her collarbones holds a core memory: during Ivy’s unforgettable field trip to San Jose, a whirlwind of hands-on learning and discovery, she witnessed a whale flipping out of the water from a cliff’s edge. That singular moment became her inspiration for pursuing Geology and Planetary Science, which she plans to study at UC Berkeley. While Ivy’s love for nature is undying, the human connections she has forged at Webb are just as extraordinary. Even as she hopes to travel the world on National Geographic’s budget in the future, Ivy will always cherish the moments she shared with her Webb companions, from dancing under the flashing prom lights, to talking friends through existential crises, to getting Whole Foods avocados with Ms. Bauman. Now, it is true that Ivy’s swimming skills may not rival those of a graceful whale in a pool, but her heart is as vast as the ocean. Her whimsy, determination, and loyalty know no bounds, and she is always down for an unrestrained food quest filled with outrageous humor alongside the people she loves.

Ivy’s profile picture has always been Stitch. And by that, I mean so many different moods of Stitches. Sometimes she reminds me of Stitch too, with her love for the color blue, her energy at the gym or on the tennis court, and her quirkiness and big brain.
