Yvette Shu

Few words can do justice to describe Yvette Shu (‘23)’s liveliness and vibrance, which is why Yvette should be a word of her own. Always jumping, yelling, working, advocating, munching, laughing, and living, Yvette would most likely be verb, and you can’t define her without her strong-will, towering stature, and her genuine ability to naturally care for others. The center of any situation, Yvette can always be found in the action because she creates it. As senior class president, she adds depth to the definition of a leader, organizing school dances like Homecoming and endofyear senior parties that become the highlight of everyone’s memories. Her excellent rhetoric is heard around campus, leading meetings in debate and Asian Affinity sessions, or hyping up the seniors with her overflowing cheer. Yvette is synonymous with the titles of “local piano player” to Webb musicians, “questionable Instagram reel spammer” and “road-raging driver” to her friends, and “scary senior” to underclassmen because you can count on her to kick out rowdy freshman from the library rooms. Her hearty laugh ringing through the dining hall will be missed, but Yvette’s impact will leave an echo. When people talk about Yvette, they will spell out not only her accomplishments, but also the happiness she shared with everyone around her. Next year, Yvette will major in Political Science and International Relations with a Pre-Med focus at Johns Hopkins University, so do not be too surprised when she writes history by becoming president of the world and your local family doctor.

You know what Yvette said to me last week? She said, ‘I really tried to be radical over spring break but I just ate too many f***ing chicken nuggies.
