Maria+Duan

Maria Duan

No matter how weird the food combo is, Maria Duan is always up for a bite of adventure. Maria is a boarding student from Bejing, China, where she enjoys showing off the variety of languages she has mastered, including, Chinese, English, Spanish, and soon, French. Maria is not only a master of words but is also a master of keys! Maria possesses an amazing talent as a pianist, having played piano for over a decade and playing for the VWS chapel, she also participates in annual competitions. As a keen reader, she enjoys novels that exclusively deal with deep moral inequality themes. Transposing these intellectual thoughts into words, Maria has contributed many articles to the Webb Canyon Chronicle. Furthermore, Maria is well-regarded by her friends as someone with an expressive heart of empathy and will go out of her way to brighten up your day. Maria enjoys comfort and does not mind joining her friend, Shuci Zhang (‘23), in pajamas at prom! Sometimes Maria’s style of comfort backfires; for example, Maria used to wear sweatpants every day of school until she was consistently dress-coded. Maria will always remember the endless memories she made at Webb, such as bingewatching Big Mouth with her friends in North Hutch and playing Cards Against Humanity while eating fresh quesadillas made by Seraphina Oney VWS dorm head. Maria plans to attend Scripps College pursuing a major in international relations, Maria is truly one of a kind, and her unwavering dedication to spread joy made Webb a better place for everybody!
