Ryan Walker

Ryan Walker sure knows how to light up a room — both figuratively, by bringing laughter to his friends, and literally, in the theater. Before entering Webb, Ryan had heard about the academically intense environment but was pleasantly surprised with the amount of fun he had, whether it was performing in the class unity dance on Theme Nights or hanging out with his friends late at night. Ryan’s favorite memory captures his carefree nature: when he was playing keepie-uppie with a balloon late at night during his freshman year, he could not stop laughing at Aidan Helgeson (‘23), who accidentally broke a window with a ping pong paddle. Theater tech was Ryan’s first found home, where he grew from a reckless freshman being chased by Jack Messina (’23) around the stage to the lighting crew chief, independently programming the lights for the 2022 fall play Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy. Ryan is a ray of sunshine around campus because he finds all sorts of ways to cheer everyone up. You will find him relaxing with friends on the tables outside the Liu Cheung theater, making jokes and inspiring the fondly remembered bursts of laughter, or skateboarding to his heart’s content outside the chapel. Whether it is his colorful, surfer boy reminiscent outfits or his work operating the light board in the theater tech booth, Webb will miss Ryan’s caring, hilarious, loyal presence on campus when he studies accounting at Willamette University next year.

He’s very vital to the tech department, an integral part of a lot of his classes, and a favorite among faculty members.

— Emily Berg ('24)
