Fashionistas investigate retail sale of fabrics in the LA Fashion District in Compose Yourself!

Compose Yourself!

I was given the opportunity to learn how to create clothes that are meaningful to me. I learned a lot about how to find clothing I identify with, rather than what’s placed in front of me in department stores.

Students walked the runway like Heidi Klum in the unbounded days trip Compose Yourself! On day one, the future fashionistas toured The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles to get an inside look at the costume design of movies produced in 2017. They then scoured the fashion district of Downtown Los Angeles, studying the retail process of design. On day two, students created a “mood board” made up of fashion magazine clippings that embodied their fashion inspirations. Taking inspiration from their mood boards, students then designed, created, and showcased their creations. These fashionistas finished their unbounded adventure with a fashion show to the tune of “Cover Girl.”
