Emily Arias (‘20)

About to finish her senior year at Webb, Emily Arias (‘20) has truly made an impact on Webb’s athletic program. Emily is a tri-sport varsity athlete involved in volleyball, water polo, and softball. She enjoys volleyball because it is a fast-paced game and the energy in the gym is simply surreal. Emily feels this same energy when playing softball. She feels special when she gets a good hit or makes a good play because her teammates cheer for her and support her. Emily’s favorite aspect of water polo is the camaraderie she feels with the teammates she loves as they are extremely supportive and encouraging.

“I think it is important for women to get involved in sports because it builds confidence,” said Emily. “When you make a good play or even just see yourself making progress over time, you feel more comfortable and you can take that confidence into other areas of your life. I have personally struggled with confidence for most of my life and playing sports has definitely provided spaces where I have been able to grow and appreciate my unique talents… I feel like it is especially important for girls and women because it is very easy to feel discouraged and less-than as a female in our society.”
