Kaylynn+Chang

Kaylynn Chang

What is it you admire most in a person? On the outside, you might call Kaylynn 가연(Ga-yeon) Chang (her name meaning, as she says, peace squared) an admirable person for her accomplishments: she is a Head Editor at the Webb Canyon Chronicle, head day student prefect, and one of the leaders behind the Asian Affinity Group at Webb. But once you get to know Kaylynn, it becomes quickly apparent that her admirable qualities extend far beyond achievements. While Kaylynn will deny that she is, like her name, peaceful (or stable), she is a rock in hard times to those around her. She loves baking, comforting and celebrating friends with her homemade cakes and cookies. This is not to say Kaylynn is quiet; on the contrary, Kaylynn embraces the fun and often strange sides of life. In her opinion, some of the best articles she has written include an article on toe socks and, oxymoronically, a deeply thought-provoking article called Humans of Webb, modeled off a project featured in a New York Times article of a similar name. Like her articles, Kaylynn’s favorite books contradict her favorite movies; she enjoys both philosophical heavy hitters like Kafka on the Shore and Metamorphosis and pop culture classics like Shrek and the Bee Movie. And, if you know Kaylynn, all four works capture both her sense of fun and quietly contemplative nature perfectly. Depth of character, an understanding soul, absorbing hobbies, and a strong sense of self: Kaylynn Chang is an admirable person.

I don’t know what goes down faster: my motivation to do homework second semester senior year or Kaylynn’s morning coffee.
