As the autumn air arrives and the day of Halloween passes, excitement buzzes through the hallways of Webb. Students sort their Halloween treasures, sharing candy with their friends or eating a bucket of sweets to themselves. But one question stands out: what’s the best Halloween candy? In a recent poll, we explored this topic to find out the top five favorite candies of Webbies in a popularity ranking, finally settling the long-lasting debate.
Nerds Gummy Clusters
Ranking first and foremost on the podium are Nerds Gummy Clusters. Bursting with bright colors, each cluster is a fun mix of flavors–whether that’s strawberry and grape or rainbow. The soft, chewy gummies are covered in crunchy Nerds, creating a great contrast of texture with every bite.
“It’s really soft and makes you want to keep eating it,” Hanbo Xu (’25) said. “it’s very colorful, so it’s also aesthetically pleasing.”
The fun blend of tastes and colors makes this candy a crowd favorite.
Sour Patch Kids
Coated in sugar and sourness, these kid-shaped candies are a perfect mix of sweet and sour. Although the shapes can be considered dark, their taste would explain Sour Patch’s high popularity as the second favorite Halloween candy of Webb.
First, it’s tart, then it turns sweet.
“There wasn’t much candy [like this] in China, so this flavor really hit the taste buds,” Marius Zhang (’28) said. “It’s like a rollercoaster of flavors, which makes it exciting,” Marius added.
Sour Patch’s bright colors make them a fun treat for those wanting something tangy.
Skittles
Skittles shine in a rainbow of colors, each offering a different burst of flavor. The chewy texture gives way to a tart explosion that is both nostalgic and satisfying.
“Every time I eat it, it reminds me of my childhood,” Zoe Liu (’28) said. “It’s nostalgic; I would see them in the Asian supermarket as a kid, but my mom never let me buy them.”
The crunchy shell and chewy inside are a mix of textures that are hard to resist.
Reese’s
Ranking fourth on the list is the candy with classic orange packaging, seen in almost every Halloween bucket. It holds creamy peanut butter inside a rich chocolate shell with each bite combining salty and sweet flavors, creating pure joy.
“It makes me feel nostalgic because I ate peanut butter a lot as a kid,” Gwen Keithley (’27) said. “I like them because I like peanut butter and I like chocolate; Reese’s is a combination of the two.”
The mix of textures—smooth chocolate and creamy peanut butter—offers a treat not too sweet or savory.
Twix
Twix bars have a crunchy cookie base topped with sweet stretchy caramel, making them a comforting candy. The mix of crunchy and chewy creates a satisfying experience that is sweet and even a little messy.
“It has a sense of hominess to it because of the sweetness and caramel, and it’s gooey, and although it’s a mess, it’s a nice and comforting mess,” Danielle Salako (’26) said.
Candy Corn
The classic Halloween candy, candy corn, features three colored pieces that symbolize the colors of fall. Though classic, it is also the most controversial Halloween candy of all.
“It has a lot of sugar and a great texture,” Oliver Richardson (’28) said. “For everyone that hates it, sure, you can say it’s unhealthy for you, but it’s Halloween; all candy is unhealthy, so why not enjoy the best candy out there?”
However, Claire Yu (‘27) has a different opinion.
“I don’t like candy corn because it tastes like rubber,” Claire said.
Twizzlers
With their long, twisted shapes, Twizzlers are often seen as a light and the ideal snack to share. Some find it bland and flavorless, while others appreciate it for its palate-cleansing quality. Among them is Tychelle Moore Cul-Pepper (’27), who appreciates Twizzlers’ mild sweetness.
“It’s not too sweet,” Tychelle said.
Their unique taste also leads to mixed feelings—some find them refreshing, while others think they lack flavor and originality compared to other choices.
“They’re very faint in flavor and have a weird aftertaste,” Sandra Wu (‘28) argued.
As we enjoy the Halloween spirit, it’s clear that our candy choices reflect both nostalgia and taste. This season is about enjoying the treats that bring us joy. So, whether you are on Team Nerds or a candy corn lover, remember that Halloween is a time to have fun, and to keep our minds open to embrace our differences.
