Holiday season at Webb is enjoyable for both students and faculty, with numerous fun activities. Winter at Webb also involves delicious food and entertaining performances. As another year has passed and the holiday season is coming up again, student-led clubs have been planning a lot of exciting activities for the school.
“Many clubs are hosting various activities at this time of year; the Ice-Skating Club is usually active right now because there’s more accessibility to ice-skating now,” said Ken Rosenfeld, Dean of Campus Life.
“We want to bring members of the club to watch the Annual Winter Recital that the Center Ice Arena hosts,” said Michael Han (‘27), leader of the Ice-Skating Club, “It is an opportunity to witness people skate their own programs, have the chance to skate afterwards, and just have a fun time.”
People often dress up as Santa and perform an impressive show program, so get excited!
Of course, no one should go off celebrating their holiday without great food and warm sweaters. Luckily, the Cooking Club and Crochet Club have you covered for that.
“For the holiday season, we hope to plan a movie night where people can come and crochet,” said Annalise Centeno (‘26), leader of the Crochet Club.
The Crochet Club is also planning to send out videos and patterns to the community, so people can learn and crochet something on their own.
“Our goal is just for people to chill and learn a useful skill,” Annalise said.
At the same time, the Cooking Club is going to feast the community with bonding activities where people can help make and enjoy delicious food from various cultures and backgrounds. Matcha Latte, Three Cup Chicken, dumplings, or fine dining… Get ready for a sweet Christmas and New Year!
“We are currently planning an activity where we will make Cup Chicken for everyone,” said Eric Luo (‘25), leader of the Cooking Club. “This is an activity that we have been planning for more than a year, so we will really try to get it done this holiday season.”
In addition, during the Lunar New Year, the Cooking Club is going to host another event for people to learn about some traditional Chinese food, perhaps make some dumplings together.
“We will eat it at the community dinner,” Eric said.
As for entertainment that brings you the festivity of the holiday season, the Dance Club has hosted their very first activity, a K-pop random dance event. Additionally, in the near future, the Dance Club will keep hosting fun and rewarding activities.
“I would love to take the club members to dance studios in LA and take lessons with professional trainers,” said Anna Zeng (‘25), leader of the Dance Club.
Furthermore, the Dance Club aims to be involved in more of the school performances.
“We can lead rehearsals and let people join the performances,” Anna said. “A lot of people want to perform, but they don’t have a song or dance to do with a group of people. We are here to support and encourage them.”
“I would love to see the Dance Club continuing the Stockdale dancing that happens during the academic week,” Mr. Rosenfeld said. “That’s always a fun thing for me to see.”
When asked about his hopes for the clubs at Webb, Mr. Rosenfeld hopes everyone can participate in club activities out of their passion and interest, and find new friends who share the same passion along the way.
“My hopes are that everyone is approaching club activities with the right spirit, which is meant to pursue something they are curious about, interested in, or passionate about, and try to be as inclusive and collaborative in it,” Mr. Rosenfeld said.
Overall, Mr. Rosenfeld loves how active Webb clubs have been, and he encourages everyone to participate in the joyous holiday activities that club leaders are hosting.
As the winter holiday approaches, here are some suggestions from the club leaders of fun activities you can do at home with family and friends.
For people who want to try crocheting warm accessories for their loved ones, Annalise has some helpful suggestions.
“Blankets, scarves, and beanies are easy to crochet for beginners, [and] so are fingerless gloves” Annalise said.
As for skaters or dancers who are looking for activities and opportunities to practice over the holiday, Michael and Anna are the ones to talk to.
“I encourage people to go to their local ice rinks where the environment will be nice, especially since the ice rinks will have their Christmas decorations up for the holiday,” Michael said.
In addition, Michael loves seeing professional skaters perform Christmas shows.
“The pros show off some of their best tricks at these shows,” Michael said.
“There is a popular dance challenge by EXO, called the First Snow,” Anna said. “There are also the Just Dance video games that you can play on TV with friends, family, or even just by yourself.”
Hope you have a wonderful holiday and remember to do a little celebratory dancing at home!
