Gale Force Tuesday: Webb tackles extreme winds and the Californian fires
February 12, 2025
Alexandra Wang (‘27) took this photo on her balcony back at Arcadia, documenting the rapid spread of the Eaton fire in Altadena. Along with the dry Winter weather and rapid blowing Santa Ana winds from inland, the fire exponentially increased in a short period of time, spreading fear among many local residents as well as Webb students tracking the hourly growth of the fires on the Calfire website, “I noticed that the Eaton Fire was getting close to my home in Arcadia on the evacuation map on Tuesday night, so I was kind of worried,” Kevin Wang (‘27) said. Boarding students with homes near the fires felt anxious especially, fearing their family’s potential evacuation.

Andy Liu, Chief of Media
For Andy Liu (’26), writing is both a mirror and a megaphone—a way to express himself and amplify voices around him. Andy is a storyteller through and through. In one of his works, a prose-like poem about the card game Dou Dizhu, he shares feelings of family love and connection. Crafted with care, his works are imbued with emotion and feeling. Yet, for Andy, writing isn’t without its challenges. Not a stranger to self-doubt, he recalls studying the dictionary to learn words that would help him fit in. Despite these feelings of isolation, Andy didn’t stop—the hardship could only be a path towards something greater. His understanding of writing deepened, and he realized that telling stories is about expressing feelings, the raw, internal emotions within. His goals aren’t limited to himself as Andy focuses on elevating the work of others. His passion for bringing voices to the ignored and struggling lives in Stepping Stones Literary Magazine, his solution to the injustice of the publishing world. He creates an unbiased and fair way for people around the world to publish their work without the difficulty of unjustified rejections. Further, his role as the chief of media for the Webb Canyon Chronicle only further proves his innate ability to project the voices of others. Like a true megaphone, Andy is the man before the crowd, voice in hand, ready to share the stories of the world.
