Typically, one might associate a “cat person” with comfort and quiet—but Rebecca Sobel-Sperry has spent her time at Webb embracing growth and the grey area outside of her comfort zone. Although Rebecca admits her personal style has had a questionable journey (she advises her freshman self to tone down the chokers and heavy eyeliner), she continues to express her creativity through outfits that feel authentically her. Living as if she has nine lives, Rebecca—a two-time varsity league champion diver and frequent surfer—knows that every great performance comes with a few bellyflops. A deeply empathetic and emotionally attuned person, Rebecca always strives to land on her feet, whether she’s offering support as a peer advisor or sinking her claws into Gothic Literature and East Asian Conflicts and Culture. Like a true cat, always ready for her next leap, Rebecca—born in Philadelphia, raised in Claremont, and soon heading to Boston University to study East Asian Studies—is already eyeing a semester in London, drawn to fresh windowsills and unfamiliar corners of the world. While Webb will miss her signature cat naps around campus, her empathetic, curious spirit is sure to shine wherever she goes.
