If you wander down to the pool on a spring morning, you’ll likely find Catherine Shen perched at the edge of the board, eyes trained on the water, mind replaying the perfect entry. A four-year member of Webb’s swim and dive team, Catherine’s dedication turned 6 a.m. practices into podium finishes, helping her team secure third place in league as both a sophomore and junior. Off the deck, she is a committed member of the chapel council, responsible for coordinating guest-speaker events and bringing activists and speakers to campus. During her free time, Catherine creates installation art that probes into religious symbolism and gender equity. She once hauled an oxygen tank into Tibetan monasteries to film a documentary on women’s leadership in Buddhism—an act that speaks volumes about her commitment to art and advocacy. As the Audiovisual Editor for the Webb Canyon Chronicle, her multimedia stories on cultural festivals and political issues make diversity feel more personal. In the fall of 2025, Catherine will be bringing the same level of dedication and advocacy to Carnegie Mellon, where she will major in Art and Political Science.
