“There’s no place like home.” Born in Russia, Elena sees this statement’s contradiction and also feels its emotional weight. Speaking out against Russia’s dictatorship has been dangerous, but Elena continues to protest, out of love for her homeland. Attending school in the U.S. at Webb, Elena has discovered a passion for political science, especially its practical applications like how a government functions. Unsurprisingly, her favorite class is AdvSt Cold War Era for its rigorous exploration of Soviet and U.S. relationships, and she is an avid political journalist as Editor-in-Chief of the WCC. But Elena has not yet found home; she is once again on the move—this time to Scotland. For the next part of her journey, Elena will attend the University of Edinburgh to study social policy and politics, hoping to bring back her knowledge to improve her country and truly make it her home. Home is not found; it’s created.
