Many can only dream of being a rocket scientist. Andrew Barrantes, however, has already turned that dream into reality through his development of the Bluebird Rocket Program here at Webb. His courage to try new things sets him apart: he is not afraid of accidentally burning down a lab, crafting a robot, or launching a rocket in the middle of Chandler Field. Just like how the mechanics of a rocket are complicated, Andrew is dynamic and multifaceted. He is STEM oriented, diving into the complicated math and engineering needed for rocket science. Equally important is his passion for the arts, whether it manifests in his commitment to the Webb Sinfonia Orchestra for four years, listening to his favorite musicals on repeat, or performing a Frank Sinatra ballad at Jubilee. Webb will miss all of Andrew’s little quirks: running across campus to class, whistling a tune in public, and his consistent rocket launch reminder STAS emails. As Andrew blasts off to the University of Southern California with a major in Aerospace Engineering, a new community will be able to witness Andrew launch to new heights, both figuratively and literally. Keep your eyes on the sky—because Andrew Barrantes is just getting started.
