Here are the requirements you must meet to attend West Point Academy: have a strong academic record, a nomination from a U.S. Senator or Representative, and physical fitness demonstrated through the Candidate Fitness Assessment. Determined to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps, Luke pushed through these difficult requirements and showed his commitment to these standards. Despite starting to wrestle in his junior year after his friend motivated him to join the team, he was able to prove his dominance on the wrestling mat. His persistence enabled him to rapidly improve in wrestling, making him one of the best on the team. He mentions that he was able to push through wrestling, because he loved the satisfaction he receives when he wins, so he would work extra hard. His favorite moment at Webb is ‘chess wrestling.’ In this game, the team will break up into two teams, and you must wrestle every single person on the opposite team to take down the king to win. This simple game of ‘wrestling chess’ not only demonstrated his skills, but his endurance to achieve success even as a rookie. As Luke heads off to West Point next year, our community will have to wrestle without his perseverance.
