It’s not uncommon to catch Omi Zhao daydreaming, his mind in the stars. From astrophysics and astrology to photography of specks of light, everything orbits around Omi’s brain. As he races down the trail during Triathlon, Omi’s mind takes snapshots of the sky around him. The passion that started from fascination with star photography spurred him to take snapshots of triathlon trails. Racing down Baseline Road with Jerry Qiao (‘25) on his bike to enjoy frozen yogurt in Claremont Village, Omi takes in the picture-worthy moments. His dorm in Macleod is atmospheric, full of other worldly video games and Vocaloid CDs. Getting ready for robotics, his mind focuses on the final image of victory at the end of their tournament. Omi takes in every detail of the universe, whether he is spending his day studying paleontology in the museum, practicing the French horn, or laughing with Dr. Nguyen during multivariable calculus. This fall, Omi is majoring in physics with a focus on astrophysics at UC San Diego, taking pictures of the stars from another perspective.
