Freshman Kennedy Clarke (‘29) charges down the field. The crowd roars as she releases the ball, landing it cleanly in the back of the net to score her fourth goal of the game, cementing the Webb Gauls as the 2026 CIF Division 8 Champions.
If you have been on campus at any point in the last two months, you have probably heard about the historic CIF run made by the girls’ varsity soccer team this season. Their successful season and achievement in the CIF tournament culminated in a win over The Buckley School at home on February 28, to crown them as the Division 8 Champions.
This season’s success provides a stark contrast to the 2024-25 season, where the team finished with a record of 4-9-1 and did not make it to CIF playoffs, compared to this season’s record of 20-1-1.
So what caused this shift? Was it the new league the girls competed in this year? Or the talented squad of freshmen that joined the team this season? While there are many factors that orchestrated the team’s success, one is the appearance of a new head coach: Danny Mosaquites.
Coach Danny, father of Webb soccer captain Natália Mosaquites and player Giada Mosaquites, came to Webb with an impressive résumé, having coached at elite soccer clubs like Inland Empire Surf and Legends FC.
Due to his extensive coaching resume, Coach Danny was able to bring his own coaching style to the Webb team. His style, according to the team, is characterized by an emphasis on the mental game, exemplified by the care he shows towards his players.
“Coach always makes sure my voice—along with everyone else’s—is heard and he puts how the players feel, mentally or physically, in front of everything else,” said Kate Cook (‘27), varsity soccer captain. “I think having a coach like that is special, especially in high school.”
Coach Danny has shown his care for the team by creating new activities such as the Golden Gaul Club, a way for players to gain points during the season for the goal of winning a custom tee shirt, team dinners, a mentorship program for upperclassmen to mentor underclassmen, and more. These actions epitomize the mantra Coach Danny set for the team at the beginning of the season: “Fit Smart Sisterhood,” a saying that reminds the players to put each other over the game. Along with the talent and hard work of the players, it is clear that Coach Danny has played a major role and left a lasting impact on his players.
“Coach Danny really focuses on us, not just as players, but us as people as well. Every day he empowers us to improve and become the best versions of ourselves,” Giada said. “On our off days he checks in with us, asks us how we are doing mentally and how we are feeling physically. For me this shows his true care, thoughtfulness, and dedication to the team.”
*Note: The girls’ season ended on 03/02/2026 with a 2-1 loss against Bravo in the first round of state playoffs.
