Tyler Liu (‘25) and Jay Pang (‘25) model the current political climate of division in the upcoming election. “People literally beat each other up over the election,” Jay said. “It’s crazy.” The political divide in the United States is becoming increasingly tense, and many students at Webb feel it in this community as well.

The Webb club fair kicks off as students buzz with excitement, introducing 40 new clubs with an additional 47 returning clubs. This year at Webb, we have an immense variety of clubs. “The club fair is very nice to have, and it is a really good opportunity for the community to come and explore new clubs,” said Sophie Lin (26’). Club fair is an event where students can support each other and really put themselves out there.

A student worries about their upcoming HC meeting after missing multiple commitments. Since the introduction of the 7/10 HC Policy where multiple missed commitments result in an HC, students fret about potential consequences. “There have been concerns brought up to the HC about the policy from students,” said Scott Wishek (‘25), head of honor council. Students express mixed opinions about the new policy while administrators work tirelessly to help them adapt to the new regulation.

Webb campus buzzed with rounds and rounds of Homecoming proposals in the days preceding the dance. Friends were around and helped with posters all in preparation for these special moments before the dance. “I think it's a great way to bond and a fabulous way to develop relationships,” Jessica Lu (‘27) said. She believes that the mood and vibe of Homecoming asks help connect people throughout campus and make memories for those involved.

From showcasing black excellence to Asian fashion to traditional Mexican dances, affinities not only provide a space to explore identity but also build community through school-wide events. The space that these groups provide allows for an exploration of identity as well as fostering student-led passions centering culture and joy. “Through the affinity groups, I have been able to meet and get to know people I barely knew before,” said Jarra Jallow (‘25). “I think that sharing our personal experiences and enjoying the food we eat there allows us to grow closer as a safe space.”

Chappell Roan has not only found herself in the spotlight of fame, but also in the spotlight of controversy. Her push to ask questions and truly learn about candidates has ignited intense debate amongst voters and fans or hers. “People were pushing her to vote for Kamala Harris but Chappell was pushing for proper research and authenticity, which is far more important than a presidential campaign, in my opinion,” said Emily Thornton (‘25).

Former VWS student Mia Li (’27) and WSC student Albert Luo (’27) found themselves disagreeing over whether to bring snacks to their club meeting. The seemingly trivial disagreement soon escalated into a two-sided fight, where they each firmly held on to their beliefs. “Albert is just difficult,” said Mia Li (’27) with a grin.

Why we cannot talk: gender polarization and its echo chambers

A pathway illuminated only by car lights is met with the sight of the locked DSPL gate. Forced to sit in their car as they waited for security to open the gate. “One time it was closed in the morning when I had to go to school, so I had to call,” Jasmine Beseth (‘25) said. “Sometimes the issue is just that they're like, not there to open it.” In this photo for example, it took security a long time to open the gate as they were not present at their stand and had no gate opener on hand.
