Meet some of our newest faculty members: Mr. Malik Mbengue

What classes are you teaching this year? 

I am teaching all grades actually. I am teaching French 2 honors, 3 honors, 3, 4, and AP.

Do you coach any sports? Which sports?

I coach soccer, I will be coaching girl’s soccer at Webb. I am very excited and  I’ve heard a lot of good things about the team.

What is your favorite TV show? 

Narcos, it is a very good TV show.

What kind of music do you listen to? 

All kinds of music but if I had to pick one it would probably be reggae. Bob Marley is my favorite artists and my favorite band would have to be The Dave Matthews Band.

Fun fact? 

I have enough brothers and sisters to fill an entire soccer team and have subs. And I had a donkey growing up.

Webb students gathered on Thursday, October 31st in their most creative and fun costumes for the annual Halloween costume contest. The energy buzzed with excitement, and many students wore unique costumes. “It’s all about having fun and expressing ourselves,” said Joyce Zhao (’25), who dressed up as the chef from Ratatouille for the contest. The event was a lively embodiment of school spirit, bringing the Webb community together as everyone paraded down the Halloween contest in their different costumes.

Parents visited the Honors Spanish 3 class at Webb taught by Ms. Viviana Nicolosi. Students in the class sat in a circle on the ground as they engaged in activities and interacted with one another. Parents also participated in activities such as “Chocolate,” where parents were paired with their kids, clapping while shouting out: “chocolate.” As Carolyn Wang (‘26) shared, “on Family Day, I had a great time in my classes, especially in Spanish class, where we played games.”

Tyler Liu (‘25) and Jay Pang (‘25) model the current political climate of division in the upcoming election. “People literally beat each other up over the election,” Jay said. “It’s crazy.” The political divide in the United States is becoming increasingly tense, and many students at Webb feel it in this community as well.

The Webb club fair kicks off as students buzz with excitement, introducing 40 new clubs with an additional 47 returning clubs. This year at Webb, we have an immense variety of clubs. “The club fair is very nice to have, and it is a really good opportunity for the community to come and explore new clubs,” said Sophie Lin (26’). Club fair is an event where students can support each other and really put themselves out there.

A student worries about their upcoming HC meeting after missing multiple commitments. Since the introduction of the 7/10 HC Policy where multiple missed commitments result in an HC, students fret about potential consequences. “There have been concerns brought up to the HC about the policy from students,” said Scott Wishek (‘25), head of honor council. Students express mixed opinions about the new policy while administrators work tirelessly to help them adapt to the new regulation.

Webb campus buzzed with rounds and rounds of Homecoming proposals in the days preceding the dance. Friends were around and helped with posters all in preparation for these special moments before the dance. “I think it's a great way to bond and a fabulous way to develop relationships,” Jessica Lu (‘27) said. She believes that the mood and vibe of Homecoming asks help connect people throughout campus and make memories for those involved.

Serena Fangary (‘18) has been a part of the Webb Canyon Chronicle since her sophomore year when she joined the team as a staff writer. As Co-Copy editor and Staff Mentor, Serena enjoys writing for different sections, while also being an active contributor to dialogue all over campus. When she isn’t busy writing or editing for the paper, Serena is usually binge-watching Netflix or hanging out with friends. Her other pastimes include hanging with her leopard gecko and reading horoscopes. Around campus, she is an active member in the dorms as a Dorm Counselor and is also part of Chapel Council. As Staff Mentor and Co-Copy editor, Serena is excited for what’s to come from the Webb Canyon Chronicle this year.
