Do you ever feel like some part of you is just a little “off,” but there is no explanation for how you are feeling? Some people believe that this imbalance comes from astrology and planetary movement, and more specifically, your horoscope.  

Created by astrologers, horoscopes follow the astrological chart of a person or moment in time, which is calculated by the planets’ positions and one’s zodiac sign. Astrologers argue that these zodiac signs, based on points in time and space, can reflect characteristics and patterns in personality and life events.  

The zodiac signs are broken up into 12 groups throughout the year that are said to explain certain aspects of each group’s life and persona.  

“It’s interesting how often people’s signs reflect their actual nature, actions, and attitudes…” said Santiago Noblin (‘21), a Libra. “I think you notice that sometimes more with signs such as Libras and Virgos than you do with other signs... It’s kind of crazy to look at and compare them all.”  

Here are the general traits of each zodiac sign. See if you fit into these descriptions! 

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) 

Aquarius signs are characterized as shy but energetic people. They have intelligent minds, love to help others, and are great at problem solving. People born under this sign tend to be independent and have a certain love for freedom. Aquarians are an air sign, along with Gemini and Libra, which are usually characterized by being intellectual and curious. A weakness of theirs is that they can be quite stubborn, and they have a hard time trusting others and committing.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20) 

Pisces signs are known to be friendly, empathetic, and intuitive. They can be very creative in what they do and are known for being compassionate. They love helping others and expect nothing in return. However, they have been known to have a desire to escape reality and can be overly trusting towards the wrong people. They can play the victim when they feel cornered and dislike when their past comes back to haunt them. They are a water sign with Cancer and Scorpio, which means that they are sensitive and sentimental and can even hold onto people and things for too long.

Aries (March 21 – April 19) 

Energy and excitement radiate from an Aries. They have a need for speed and a love for competition. Because of their astounding courage, Aries signs act as soon as they can, whether they have thought it through or not. There is confidence in an Aries’ stride and great optimistic energy within them. Their organization skills are incredible. However, because of their fast-paced way of living, they can be impatient, impulsive, and short-tempered. They have a strong personality, and are fire signs, meaning they are passionate, enthusiastic, and warm.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)  

Very down-to-earth, the Taurus sign is practical, has a love for beauty, and is very in touch with the senses. Reliability comes naturally to a Taurus, as they are trustworthy and responsible. They are a stable sign who sticks to their way of things, and because of this, they can be stubborn. Tauruses are grounded so the fact that they are an earth sign is no surprise as they are known for being practical and stable. They are unwavering and hard workers.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20) 

A complex mix of characteristics, Geminis can be both quick-witted and ready for fun, while also tending to become serious quickly. They are thoughtful and curious, ready to explore the world. Geminis are an air sign, which connects them, Aquarius, and Libras by their intelligent minds. Geminis confide in others, always seeking their other half, whether that is in friends, mentors, or lovers. They can sometimes be nervous and indecisive, but their ability to learn can quickly trump this.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22) 

Cancer signs are known for being intuitive and sentimental and are known for being a hard sign to understand. They are emotional and care a lot about their family. They are sympathetic, known for getting attached to people close to them. Cancers are empathetic and can understand others’ pain. Because of their sentimental side, it is no surprise that Cancers are a water sign. Water signs are in known for being in touch with their emotions. Cancers can be pessimistic sometimes and a bit manipulative when they want something. They are quick to help others and avoid conflict of any time.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)  

As natural born leaders, Leos are confident, dominant, and creative. They can do anything they set their mind to. Leos have many friends and are very loyal. They are overall generous and warm-hearted, always looking for a good time. Leos are a fire sign, meaning they are passionate, yet feisty. A big weakness of Leos is that they can be arrogant, which leads to a stubborn and self-centered mindset. Overall, Leos are headstrong, confident, and always ready for fun.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22) 

Virgos are the most careful sign. They pay attention to the smallest details and have a deep sense of humanity. Virgos are tender and practical, which leads them to seem closed–off when it comes to their emotions, as they don’t believe they are valid most of the time. This might lead them to feel misunderstood. Due to their practicality, Virgos are an earth sign, which allows them to be strong but conservative. Even though they can be shy and worrisome, Virgos will always be loyal and kind in any situation. They can find themselves in nature, animals, and a good book.

Libra (September 22 – October 22)  

Known for their charming personalities, Libras love the balance between individuality and partnership in their lives. They are very social people, who prefer to avoid confrontation and remain cooperative. Libras love sharing with others and hate people who conform without their own defined beliefs, which explains why they will make sure you never forget that they have an opinion. Because they are an air sign, Libras love to be constantly stimulated and are very diplomatic. Libras are great people to surround yourself with because they will always be honest but peaceful.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) 

Scorpios are of the most confident and strong-minded signs. They are passionate and assertive people, who are known to be great and resourceful leaders. Scorpios are life-long friends because of the passionate and honest beliefs they live by. Emotions are very important to Scorpios because they are a water sign, but unlike the other signs in this group, they manifest these emotions for trust and to build strong relationships. Assertive and fierce, Scorpios are not someone you want against you.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) 

Generous and funny, Sagittarians are one of the most enthusiastic of the signs. They value freedom and exploration, which is why many Sag’s love the outdoors and hate clingy people. Because of their optimistic and enthusiastic traits, Sagittarians have a unique desire for change to be able to achieve their goals. With a “big picture” mindset and a fiery curiosity, this fire sign loves to stay in touch with their experiences and learning opportunities.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Even though they can sometimes be stubborn, Capricorns are an earth sign, which means that they are grounded and prioritize their relationships and non-material aspects of the real world. Many do not believe in zodiac signs in terms of predicting one’s personality because the traits can be general, while others fully believe that their sign describes them.
