David Duan, Staff Writer
If you walk into the dining hall early on a Sunday morning, ready with your plate in the short line for breakfast, you’ll find David Duan (‘28), omelet already on his fork. David brings enthusiastic energy to every moment of his life, finding the small wins, like his favorite taste of a Webb omelet on a Sunday morning. While most cross-country runners would complain about their long, tiring practices, David sprints across the hills of Mongo, chasing the feeling of encouragement from fellow runners. Rather than prioritizing scoring a goal on the soccer field, David basks in the glory of an assist as he runs to his teammates. On average days in Beijing, David is always ready to gather his friends for hotpot or a competitive game of FIFA on his computer. His zeal also seeps into his academic endeavors, constantly ready to learn history or write a creative piece, looking for glimmers in otherwise lengthy days. From listening to Grecian myths to studying the labor practices of Chiquita, a fruit company in Latin America, David is determined to find the joys in schoolwork that can typically be regarded as tedious. Working on Webb’s literary magazine Breakfast, David has felt his creative side skyrocket, encouraging him to shine light on micro-moments with the Webb Canyon Chronicle this year. So, while some may think a Saturday night of watching “The Big Bang Theory” and listening to alternative music is anticlimactic, David will be ready to turn the evening into an unforgettable one.
