Michael Han, Staff Writer
If you can’t find Michael Han (‘27), check the local skating rink. Nine out of ten times that is where he will be, skating away and letting loose. For Michael, skating is much more than a distraction from his packed Webb schedule, or his preferred form of exercise. With every spin, every perfectly landed jump, Michael is showing that hard work does pay off. Inspired and motivated by his hardworking dad and the famous skater Yuzuru Hanyu, Michael has been figure skating for eight years. The path has not always been smooth, but Michael has been able to learn a lot about how working hard can lead to accomplishments, a lesson that has helped him in other areas of his life, like running a casual six miles a day in cross country practice or leading Upper Dorms to a Webb Idol win his freshman year by hitting a triple axel on Centennial Field. It takes a certain amount of drive to wake up before school to put in a good practice at the rink, especially as a boarding student. But Michael never seems to get tired, as in his free time, he enjoys reading and gaining knowledge about the world around him. In contrast to the chill of the ice he glides over, Michael strives to fill his life with the warmth of his close friends and people around him. He intends to bring his drive and ambition from the skating rink to a new adventure as a staff writer for the Webb Canyon Chronicle this year.
