Hiking the Trans-Catalina Trail

During the Hiking the Trans-Catalina Trail Unbounded Trip, participants endure one of the most demanding yet rewarding backpacking trails. Students encountered beautiful scenery and built new friendships. “This trip pushed me out of my comfort zone, and we ended up camping in some incredible spots,” Frannie Hinch (‘25) said.

Martin Beseth (‘27) angrily educates Ethan Xi (‘27) about over-relying on paper cups as they produce unnecessary waste. Webb started to advocate for the community to decrease the number of paper cups used. “I think [Webb is] taking a huge step towards stopping the deforestation of trees ...and helping the environment,” Martin Beseth (‘27) said. The attention brought to the community prompts new opinions among students on using fewer paper cups.

"It doesn’t matter who she’s (Ms. Lopez) there for —when Ms. Lopez walks in, the whole room goes silent, and everyone gets tense," Jonathan Lee ('27) said. This reaction reflects how the Deans' Building's intimidating reputation often impacts students, even in situations where no disciplinary action is involved.
Breaking the barrier: making the Deans' Building more approachable
On December 18, 2024, at the Webb Schools’ gym, Dr. Theresa Smith, Head of Schools, struck a thoughtful pose, embodying curiosity and reflection. She pondered the transformative potential of artificial intelligence. "How is AI going to transform education and transform society at large?" Dr. Smith asked. She wishes to make Webb a safe place for students to innovate and prepare for the technological advancements of society.

Tracy Ren (‘28) stands on the outdoor courts, ready to practice for the girls’ JV team. Her excitement to improve is infectious, filling the court with a buzz of eagerness. Although the team warms up outside, in the chilly winter air, the excitement warms the team up. "Having energy on the court makes me play better” says Mandana Mojaverian (‘26). With the readiness for improvement coursing through the girl's veins, there's no secret this season will be a great one.

Holiday decorations relieve stress around Webb campus
The sunlight gleams on the edges of the front steps of the Webb campus steps, defining the students' goals to think, act, lead, and serve. Although the front steps remind us of our principles to be trendsetters, another step needs to be taken for a Webb student to become a true leader. “For me, leadership is really a very basic principle of how one leads their own life” said Sarah Lantz, Dean of Students. But how can students lead their life confidently and serve the community as student leaders?

Emily Li ('24) is not your usual iPad kid. You might see her using her tablet, but trust me: she isn't playing Roblox. She is a passionate artist who loves to create artwork on her iPad. Emily's favorite thing to draw is the people around her, focusing on experimenting with colors. She also enjoys dancing to popular K-pop stars IU and Mamamoo. Just like her top-notch dancing skills, she has a crazy tolerance for spice – do not be surprised when you see her empty bottle of sriracha. However, Emily's dynamic personality is not confined to her personal endeavors. As head peer advisor, she steps into a leadership role that suits her naturally empathetic and social nature. She finds joy in building bridges, fostering connections, and offering a sympathetic ear to those around her. One of Emily’s main goals this year is to give as much love as she can to the world. At the Webb canyon chronicle is to improve the diversity of articles and further refine the website after designing it. In a world where each stroke of her digital pen, every dance step, and all her interactions paint a picture of her vibrant self, Emily Li stands not only as a multitalented artist, leader, athlete and beacon of positivity, illuminating everything she touches with her unique and colorful perspective.

Yuki Layman, Public Editor
As she begins her senior year at Webb, Yuki Layman (‘25) starts a new episode of her life in exploring her passion for making an impact by helping others. Along with volunteering at the Smithsonian Museum Summer Festival to give back to her home community of Washington D.C. this past summer, Yuki also aspires to make prominent changes that impact modern-day society and bring opportunities to the less fortunate. A true protagonist at heart, she strives to learn more about the status quo, allowing herself to delve into the world’s current news while also focusing on the people around her. For example, Yuki enjoys spending time with her family and friends, including attending concerts, binge-watching Gravity Falls, baking, visiting the beach, or just studying at a local café. On top of her warm hospitality and attention for others, she is always able to find time for herself by journaling, dancing, or listening to a variety of songs including “Bad Religion” by Frank Ocean, “10%” by KAYTRANADA, and “When You Sleep” by My Bloody Valentine. Returning as the Public Editor of the WCC this year, Yuki adds a new highlight to the newsroom with her drive towards producing impactful articles to inspire more audiences.    Favorite Song: Women by Little Simz ft.
