DJ Kenny Clay (‘25) is now on deck.
After a long wait the DJ set up is finally back in Fawcett Library. Now that the library construction is over, Kenny is reopening Neria Spence (‘24)’s tradition, who passed it down to him last year.
“I really wanted to start this a lot earlier but with all of the construction going on in the library [the circulation desk] was closed for a while,” Kenny said. “And then Dr. Dzula was just trying to wait and see if we could get the record player going, so it was just a lot of things that made it hard to come do it. I’m glad I finally got it up.”
Kenny is bringing all the good vibes to Webb and bringing a broad variety of music to campus, at lunch on Fridays.
“I want to play a lot more like soul and R&B but also some hip hop too,” Kenny said. “If my friends want me to bring records too I will, like Lauren [Guiterrez (‘25)] just said she has a Smíno record.”
This year, Kenny brought on a special guest to help him bring the most immaculate energy to the library, Leia Albornoz (‘25).
“This was kind of a spur of the moment, but Leia has a really good music taste too,” Kenny said. “I figured it would be really fun to do it together, and if there is a day I’m not around then Leia can take over and vice versa.”
With Leia on deck, new genres of music will be brought to the turn table.
“I am also thinking some more R&B [and] soul, but I also really want to introduce some older Latin music and maybe alternative,” Leia said. “There is a couple of albums I’m planning on playing called Dog Daze by Cruza and Laroye by Abase.”
As of right now, the DJ set up only consists of a laptop and speakers. However, once Dr. Dzula’s record player is back up and running, expect the best vinyl to be brought to Webb.
