Catherine Shen, Editor of Audiovisual
It seems as though Catherine Shen (‘25) can do it all. Beyond the ability to light up someone’s day with a fun spirit, Catherine is an artist with a deep love for religion and political science. Like a 3D collage made from a variety of materials, Catherine’s diverse interests make up her character and identity. This past summer, Catherine not only spent time at UCLA but also traveled to China to work on a documentary about Tibetan Buddhism and women’s leadership in religion. However, her documentary is not the only thing that captures her passions. A passionate artist, Catherine expresses her identity through installation art, using different materials to incorporate themes such as Buddhism. When Catherine isn’t the overachieving older sister we all look up to, she is playing Identity V, eating snacks while watching romance shows, or enjoying Shangcheng Lameizi hotpot with friends. As the WCC’s Editor of Audiovisual, she hopes to start media related projects, including podcasts or videos regarding current political and social issues such as women’s rights. From documenting women’s leadership in religion to making installation art, Catherine’s life is a large-scale, mixed-media construction of art, religion, political science, friends, family, food, and horror escape rooms.

Bella Schnurer, Staff Writer
From outsmarting her friends on the chessboard to dreaming of opening a wildlife sanctuary, Bella Schnurer’s (‘27) world is a mix of strategy and creativity. Although she only started playing chess two years ago following a light-hearted competition with a friend quickly transformed into an earnest pursuit. Bella's dedication led her to a chess academy, where she trains regularly, determined to achieve a Woman FIDE Master title someday. Today, she balances her time between studying and volunteering at a non-profit chess organization, where she shares her love for the game by teaching others. Beyond the pawns, rooks and queens, Bella’s aspirations range from entrepreneurship to maintaining shelter for animals in Africa. With her sights set high and a love for learning and exploring, Bella has the spirit of a true strategist — always planning her next move. This year, she’s eager to bring her very own perspective and storytelling skills to the Webb Canyon Chronicle, capturing the interests and passions of her peers through her writing.
