Webb students Freya Fu (‘26), Sebastian Saeedy (‘26), and Thomas Chiu (‘26) mimic a common scene Webbies exhibit during finals or assessment-heavy weeks. To combat Webb’s stressful nature, events held by various leadership groups—such as the PA’s Stress Less Week—aim to create a more peaceful environment on campus. “Typically, I go to the Stress Less Week events and have fun, but this year I wasn’t really stressed, and it was really cold when they held the water balloon fight,” said Maya Chin (‘26). Whether Stress Less Week effectively achieves its goal of reducing stress, considering its planned activities and timing, is called into question, making it necessary to explore what an ideal version of Stress Less Week might look like.

Frannie Hinch (‘25) and Yuki Layman (‘25) brighten the quad through decorative chalk art. This is one of the many activities the peer advisors put on to celebrate Stress Less Week. “It was a really fun way to de-stress because drawing particularly with chalk is a really calm thing for the mind,” Yuki said. The colorful designs brought a cheerful touch to campus, lifting everyone's spirits.

Martin Beseth (‘27) angrily educates Ethan Xi (‘27) about over-relying on paper cups as they produce unnecessary waste. Webb started to advocate for the community to decrease the number of paper cups used. “I think [Webb is] taking a huge step towards stopping the deforestation of trees ...and helping the environment,” Martin Beseth (‘27) said. The attention brought to the community prompts new opinions among students on using fewer paper cups.

Holiday decorations relieve stress around Webb campus
Isamar Theobald (‘25), Jarra Jallow (‘25), and Frannie Hinch (‘25) exit Target, one of the stops on the Webb Loop, and make their way back to the van to return to Webb. On the Webb Loop they made stops at both Claremont Village and Target. “It was super convenient and fun that we got the chance to pick up some Philz Coffee then get picked up by the Webb Loop to head over to Target,” Isamar said. Overall, students have been relaying positive feedback to this new form of weekend transportation.

On December 12, 2024, at the Webb Schools' Jones dormitory, Sandy Li ('27) brought spooky vibes to campus. Sandy channeled her love for scary movies with a playful, eerie pose, evoking classic horror-inspired energy. "I really like scary movies because I love that rush of adrenaline when something jumps out at me," she said.

Nichole Lee (‘25) frets over Webb’s change in the Niche Rankings. Since 2022, Webb has fallen from 25th best American boarding high school to 41st. “Of course, the school is more than rankings, but such an enormous drop is not a good sign,” said Nichole.

Waving proudly above the Price dining hall on a cold winter morning, flags hang, representing the different countries that Webb students come from. "I think the flags in Price are a beautiful way of displaying students’ culture,” Rebecca Bronshtein (’27) said. These flags are one of the steps Webb takes in its commitment to representation. "They really make our community feel closer together.”
A window into Webb’s diverse cultures
Alexandra Wang (‘27) took this photo on her balcony back at Arcadia, documenting the rapid spread of the Eaton fire in Altadena. Along with the dry Winter weather and rapid blowing Santa Ana winds from inland, the fire exponentially increased in a short period of time, spreading fear among many local residents as well as Webb students tracking the hourly growth of the fires on the Calfire website, “I noticed that the Eaton Fire was getting close to my home in Arcadia on the evacuation map on Tuesday night, so I was kind of worried,” Kevin Wang (‘27) said. Boarding students with homes near the fires felt anxious especially, fearing their family’s potential evacuation.

Each carefully tended plant is a testament to the collective care of the Lopez Urban Farm. From access to education to sustainable practices, the volunteers are always focusing on impact. "I think the most meaningful part of the work that we do is creating access. So, a lot of the things that we offer are normally monetized,” Bianca Ustrell-Friend said. Whether it is food or clothes to put on your back, the Lopez Urban Farm always meets the needs of the locally underserved.
Growing seeds of change within and beyond Webb
Webb students often use AI tools like ChatGPT to navigate questions they have about their classes, some students even having ChatGPT Pro subscriptions. “I think it becomes a habit that’s hard to break because ChatGPT is such a versatile and accessible tool to use for everything,” Triet Pham (‘26) said. However, headlines have been surfacing linking the detrimental environmental impact of AI, with some news sources even tying the recent California wildfires to AI’s resource use. This research has raised questions on whether investing in AI is worth it.

Claire Yu (‘26), searching Jenn Tran on the internet, views endless articles about Jen’s personal, social, romantic, and television life. “I had never heard of her before but seeing that she is Asian American made me interested in [the] kind of contributions she made to pop culture,” Claire said. Scrolling through the internet, Claire is amazed at the impact that Jen has on reality TV. “It was cool searching about her as it’s rare for me to see this representation on TV,” she said.

Sarah Lantz, Dean of Students, and Micheal Hoe, Assistant Head of School, explain procedures for the Honor Pledge Ceremony to students sitting outside the chapel. This is the first time students have had to sit outside to accommodate the larger number of students in a co-ed ceremony. “We had new signers for the Honor Pledge and escorts sit outside the chapel and watch the ceremony on TVs, which was a new addition this year,” said Scott Wishek (‘25), chair of the honor council.

Tyler Liu (‘25) and Jay Pang (‘25) model the current political climate of division in the upcoming election. “People literally beat each other up over the election,” Jay said. “It’s crazy.” The political divide in the United States is becoming increasingly tense, and many students at Webb feel it in this community as well.

Aurora Deng (’26) is doing Saturday check-in at Stockdale Community Center with the new application REACH and its embedded NFC tag. “I like it more [now that] we don’t have to do the sign-in books because there used to be a long line,” said Jacky Qi. ”NFC tags are a lot faster.” Before NFC tags were implemented, students had to sign the physical check-in books every Saturday.

Gianna Darden (‘26) is true to her Sagittarius sign, driven by an adventurous spirit, always eager to embrace new experiences, and takes on various leadership positions. As a peer advisor, admission ambassador, and Editor of News on the Webb Canyon Chronicle. Despite her busy schedule, Gianna is committed to living life to the fullest by exploring new places with friends, such as trails and long drives in new areas. Over the summer, she tried different cuisines like Chinese, Indian, and Thai, drove a jet ski, and traveled to Los Angeles. Not only is she passionate about having fun, but she also advocates for women’s rights and more accessible menstrual products. In her spare time, Gianna enjoys experimenting with strange recipes, watching movies, and playing wordscapes. Her favorite movie genres are fantasy and science fiction. She loves watching sitcoms and can predict movie plots since Sagittarians are known for their intelligence.
