Dessie Koehn, Staff Writer
Dessie Koehn (‘27) is wise beyond her age. If you ever talk to her, she speaks with a serenity unseen in a digital era of “screenagers.” Her interests reflect her maturity as well. For instance, she enjoys running cross country and track because it is rewarding to monitor her process bit by bit, dropping a whopping 8 minutes by the end of her freshman season. Besides an obsession of putting herself in 3.1 miles of pain at cross country meets, Dessie also values informing herself on foreign affairs, including the humanitarian issue of the treatment of Palestinian people in the Israel-Palestine conflict. Dessie is also fascinated by World War II history, mainly the cold-hearted technology and strategy side. She does make up for this cold-heartedness by reading human stories like Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan, though! She plans on bringing this passion about people to the WCC, focusing on the human-interest stories and inviting you to chat over a cup of hot cocoa while she’s at it.
