Jenny Wang

Jenny+Wang

Jenny Wang’s love for Jane Austen novels and, especially, Pride and Prejudice naturally demands a comparison between her and protagonist Elizabeth Bennet. Like Lizzy, Jenny is a bookworm who remains a loyal (and rare) user of the Fawcett Library’s checkout system, devouring genres ranging from creative nonfiction to historical fiction. Jenny also embodies Elizabeth’s courage and independence, willing to challenge her comfort zone by joining the winter triathlon team or backpacking the Trans-Catalina trail. Unfortunately, Jenny’s similarities with Elizabeth might end there. While Lizzy has made misjudgments of character due to her pride and prejudice, Jenny’s humility, grace, and clarity have characterized her abundant leadership roles as a Head HC, Editor-in-Chief of the Webb Canyon Chronicle, debate team captain, D1 badminton captain, and chapel council member. However, these diverse activities do not impede Jenny from maintaining a close relationship with her friends, whether through trying new foods on weekend runs, singing karaoke to Hamilton, or engaging in (no device!) conversations in the dining hall. As much as Jenny loves curling up with a book on rainy days, she will bring her sunshine smile to Stanford University in pursuit of her passion for Political Science and Human Rights. Sure, book characters embody qualities that attract readers, but they all pale in comparison to Jenny Wang: the radiant protagonist of her own unforgettable story.

I think Jenny is such a keystone species in the Webb community — if the species is not there, the whole ecosystem gets messed up. She’s so near and dear to so many people’s hearts; she has provided support to so many people, and she’s friends with even more. She’s just a crucial part of this community, and the whole environment cannot function without her.
