Webbies voted on a list of their favorite spooky season flicks to help you on your search for the perfect Halloween movie!

Coming in at number one, this iconic animation is the perfect dose of thrilling. In this film, a young girl named Coraline discovers a secret passageway in her new home that leads to an alternate reality mirroring her own in many ways. Coraline, who is struggling to connect with her real family, finds this new universe to be better than her own until she discovers a shocking truth about her new family. This is the perfect pick for any family’s Halloween themed movie night. 

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)– can be found on: Disney Plus, iTunes, Amazon Prime 

From the title alone, you may wonder how this movie could get you into the Halloween spirit. In this exciting film, Jack Skellington, “Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king,” grows bored with annually terrorizing humans as a skeleton. By chance, he finds himself in Christmastown and is inspired to steal Christmas from Santa Claus. He comes up with a plan to take over as Santa Claus; however, this plan begins to unravel slowly as the plot thickens. The film takes a creepy twist on Christmas with a Halloween crossover.

In this classic, the Peanuts gang celebrates Halloween; however, they are split between how they should celebrate. While Charlie Brown wants to attend a Halloween party, Linus awaits the Great Pumpkin, which will deliver gifts to all the children in town. This family friendly film is just the thing to get you in the Halloween spirit without having to watch a gory horror film.

Speaking of gory films, this remake of the 1990 thrilling horror film It, will give you the chills, especially if you have a fear of clowns. Seven young outcasts in Derry, Maine, are confronted with their worst nightmare––a bloodthirsty clown named Pennywise that emerges out of the sewers every 27 years to prey on children. Viewers watch as the children journey to battle the clown and their own deepest fears. If you are a horror film lover, then this is the movie for you.

This movie, based on the 1964 Addams Family Sitcom, brings the quirky yet iconic Addams Family to life. The plot revolves around Gomez Addamss (the father) long-lost brother Fester, who is lying about his true identity. This freaky and bizarre family with an incredible familial bond battles their enemies and take on spooky adventures together. This family has all the eerie qualities that you may be looking for this Halloween.

If you are looking for an unforgettable film that is as chilling as it is comedic, this is just the film for you. After Barbara and Adam Maitland die in a car accident, they become ghosts who are stuck haunting their home. When a family from New York City buys their house, the Maitland’s attempt to scare them away; just when they think their plan is failing, they discover the spirit Beetlejuice. After being given fair warning to never say his name three times, they decide to go against orders and summon Beetle Juice to help them haunt the new residents in their home. This is a classic Halloween film that most definitely should be on your watch list his season.

This Disney classic is suited for all ages and will give you all the magic you are looking for on Halloween night. Marnie celebrates her 13th birthday by following her grandmother to Halloweentown with her siblings, where she is shocked to learn that she is a witch. Halloweentown is a place where supernatural beings can live in peace; however, Marnie soon discovers that she must fight alongside her family to defeat the evil that is threatening to take over the world. If you are looking for a magic filled, family friendly film to watch this Halloween, this flick is the perfect pick. 

Hocus Pocus (1993)– can be found on: Disney Plus, iTunes 

Hocus Pocus is another magical Disney movie, but unlike Marnie in Halloweentown, the witches are the villains in this story. After moving to Salem, Massachusetts, teenager Max Dennison stumbles into an abandoned house with his sister Dani and new friend Allison. Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches from within the house, and now the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to prevent the witches from becoming immortal. This mystical movie gives viewers the evil but entertaining plot they are looking for on Halloween.

If you are looking for a hair-raising film, grab a friend and watch Halloween. The movie begins forty years after Laurie Strode survived an attack by psycho murderer Michael Myers on Halloween night. Myers has recently escaped from amental institution, and now, Laurie faces a terrifying confrontation when the masked madman returns to Haddonfield. This chilling thriller will have you on the brink of suspense through the entirety of the film 

Goosebumps (2015)– can be found on: Amazon Prime, iTunes, YouTube 

Goosebumps is a fun take on R.L. Stine’s book series. In this film young Zach Cooper meets Hannah, the daughter of R.L. Stine. Zach accidentally unleashes the monsters from her father’s book series, and now, he must return these creatures to their books with the help of Stine and Hannah. This creepy but comedic movie is a fun pick for your Halloween movie night.
