If you ever need someone to help escape the stresses of daily life with, Ava Crane (‘25) is the person to go to. Whether it is cheering during Varsity Volleyball games or laughing with friends on a school day, there is never a dull moment with Ava. She makes sure to talk to someone she loves every day, helping their worries fade away. When she is not brightening peoples’ days, she can be found reading stories she loves, like Little Women by Louisa May Alcott and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. However, her love for strong female leads goes beyond books. Taylor Swift’s songs and storytelling capture Ava’s heart, just as Ava captures many others. Inspired by the narrative of her strong mother’s career, Ava has always been enchanted by stories. With that fascination, Ava plans to explore Journalism in the newsroom as a staff writer, transforming from a reader to a writer. With her love for stories and ambition, Ava is ready to embrace another medium this year.

The College Guidance Office, hidden between the trees of lower campus, with a table and chairs outside providing a quiet place to work, is where students receive advice and support while preparing for and applying to college. “I think it's hard because it's two counselors supporting 100 students,” said Emily Thornton (’25). “I think you can feel really unsupported.” Only having two counselors for so many students might lead to a lack of knowledge for students about the college process.

A pathway illuminated only by car lights is met with the sight of the locked DSPL gate. Forced to sit in their car as they waited for security to open the gate. “One time it was closed in the morning when I had to go to school, so I had to call,” Jasmine Beseth (‘25) said. “Sometimes the issue is just that they're like, not there to open it.” In this photo for example, it took security a long time to open the gate as they were not present at their stand and had no gate opener on hand.

The Less Perry Gym during afternoon activity. The ceiling with no windows or air conditioning shows the lack of ventilation in the building. "During the summer practices, I've been to practice, it would kind of be hotter inside the gym than outside the gym,” said Nate Llorens (‘27).

Aurora Deng (’26) is doing Saturday check-in at Stockdale Community Center with the new application REACH and its embedded NFC tag. “I like it more [now that] we don’t have to do the sign-in books because there used to be a long line,” said Jacky Qi. ”NFC tags are a lot faster.” Before NFC tags were implemented, students had to sign the physical check-in books every Saturday.
