Sandy Li (‘27) pins life down with unwavering determination, turning every challenge into an opportunity to grow stronger. On the mat, she learned that a match isn’t decided in a single move but in the grind—every takedown fought for, every second of pressure endured. That same resilience carried her home to Jilin, China, where she spent the summer running a girls’ wrestling camp, named Powher, teaching younger athletes how to sprawl, reset, and rise again after a loss. Off the mat, Sandy turns her own bruises and triumphs into verse, publishing poetry in Webb’s literary magazine Breakfast and earning recognition from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Her writing doesn’t just tell her story but captures the emotions of others who feel unheard. At the Webb Canyon Chronicle, she uses that same empathy to craft pieces that give weight to diverse perspectives. Her work as an international student liaison deepens that mission, letting her listen across cultures and carry those voices into her reporting. For Sandy, wrestling isn’t just a sport but a way of moving through the world—every obstacle is a match to grow and every victory builds her strength.
