VWS Tennis has a successful season ending in CIF

After having a very successful season, Saira Bhagat (‘25) and Jasmine Beseth (‘25) take a break after qualifying for CIF individuals. Both have dominated the court on varsity since freshman year, and their three years together shows in their excellent communication on the court. “I’m most proud of the fact that we made it to CIF, and we had a really great season with a lot of spirit,” said Saira. Jasmine agreed that this season, everyone bonded really well and contributed to a positive team spirit. “This season, I'm proud of getting to know everyone and having fun,” Jasmine said.

USA men’s water polo team makes a splash at Webb
As Webb students depart from campus to enjoy the rest of the holiday season, it provides the perfect time to look back and see how Webb decorated their spaces to celebrate this festive season. This year, the Price Dining Hall is displaying a gorgeous, 20-foot Christmas tree, beautifully lit and decorated. Lighting up the Christmas trees with various colorful ornaments, Webb’s community service afternoon activity contributed greatly to the setup and assembling of the artificial tree. “It was very fun to set up the tree and bring holiday cheer!” Frannie Hinch (‘25) said. For many others, decorating the campus for community service has been rewarding to see the joy they bring to students, faculty, and staff.
Holiday Decorations Enliven Webb
Students sit around the fireplace, roasting marshmallows and apples on sticks before the party begins. The party was at the Upper Dorms this year, decorated with Christmas lights. “I hope the party brings the community together, as well as dorm spirit and everything because its towards the end of the year, said Arthur Lu (‘24), a dorm prefect. “Many people are getting tired. We want to raise the holiday spirit for the last week of school finals.”
Webbies have a blast at the Holiday Party
In the evening sun, students gathered at the museum steps in a chaotic mass. Some students took photos. Others waited for friends. And yet more continuously readjusted their clothing. But most attendees were wondering where the buses were. “It’s already 5:15,” said Ryan Ho (25’). “I thought the bus would be here by now.”
Fish, Push-ups, and Buses: Webb brings life to Homecoming this year
The DSPs Kevin Wang (‘24), Hannah Hao (‘24), and Kate Alvarez (25) smile at the camera as they prepare for the DSP Fall Social. Students can come to the front table and line up to get tickets for pie and free boba. From 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., students were coming up the gym hill to grab the free desserts. The boba truck, though, was the biggest hit of the night.
Chills of fear flow at the Prefects’ Fall Social: Halloween edition
House of Allan: the intriguing exhibit of Will Allan, Humanities Department Faculty, extensive and unique collection of Webb gear. This exhibit was put up for Alumni Weekend but is here to stay for at least a week. It includes Mr. Allan’s collection of clothes that he has gotten since he became a part of the Webb community in 1992; some pieces are vintage while some are new. T-shirts are an actual artifact so it is exciting to me as a librarian to have shirts from a long period of time that are connected to Mr. Allan, whether that is him as a student, teacher, or as a coach, said Dr. Mark Dzula, Director of Teaching and Learning Resources.

Sophomore catcher Mikey Pino (‘26), who has already logged 17 hits and 16 runs with a season batting average of .436, extends his arms as he drives the outside pitch to right field for a double, putting the team in a great position to score. “I have felt really good in the box while hitting,” said Mikey Pino (‘26), “Recently I feel like I cannot get out, I feel amazing”
Webb baseball charges ahead in playoff run
Senior wrestler, Ken Lin (24’), goes up against one of the many wrestlers who attended this year’s wrestling CIF championship. Out of 30 members on the wrestling team, only four upperclassmen and 4 other members qualified to participate in the CIF wrestling tournament. “This year was a pivotal year for Webb wrestling,” said Eric Hansen, VWS and WSC wrestling coach and humanities department faculty. “This year, our team has had the most members [it’s ever had], and suddenly, the possibilities felt bigger.”
Wrestling team smashes the season
Nicole Sampson (‘26), shoots against an opposing team, while an eager audience awaits the outcome of her shot. As Webbies reminisce on the team’s remarkable progression through CIF, the question of how this team made it this far begins to appear. “Everyone on the team gets along, and with new people coming in and stepping up in leadership, we have really good shot at CIF next year,” Geniya Parker (‘26) said.

WSC Varsity Basketball keeps fighting through the season
In preparation for the incoming volleyball season, Jacob Zhang (‘26) practices serving the ball during the WSC Clinics. Despite the ascent to Les Perry Gym, prospective students interested in playing Volleyball this Spring will have to make the climb. “Volleyball clinic was a great way to get to know the players on the teams and coaches and to work on my skill,” Samantha Crawford (‘26) said. Whether it is the VWS or WSC volleyball clinic, the experience serves as an important building block for all players.
WSC volleyball clinic prepares players for domination
Brian Caldwell, Triathlon team head coach, stands next to the pool as swimmers flip turn and do another lap. The steamy fog reflects a freezing temperature of 35 degrees fahrenheit at 7:00 a.m. in the morning. Despite the cold, swimmers persevere and continue training for their full triathlon by the end of the season, with breathtaking dawns as their constant companion.

Jonathan is WSC Varsity Soccer this year; having been a part of the program for the last 3 seasons, he said, “I am excited for my senior season and enjoy playing with my friends on the team.” Both Matt and Jonathan are excited for this season of sports at Webb and plan to attend as many of their fellow peers games as well.

As they finish their warm-ups, track and field coach, Anthony Flucker, tells the athletes to line up and start practice off with running a mile.

With a kind smile and calming voice, Kristine Bisgaard (‘25) is the embodiment of the Danish concept of “hygge”: a word that cannot be directly translated into English but roughly means an atmosphere of comfort, coziness, and connection between people. Hailing from Denmark – although she has moved around the world since she was seven years old, going from Northern Europe to the Bay Area, and now Claremont – Kristine is no stranger to frequent change. Even her introduction to Webb was more sudden than most, as she simultaneously entered boarding school and the Webb Canyon Chronicle as a new junior. Despite the inevitable obstacles, Kristine has welcomed every opportunity to explore her new community with an open mind and easygoing personality. This year, Kristine looks forward to continuing to watch her favorite Danish TV shows, making new friends in her “home away from home,” and learning how to utilize journalism to make her own unique contribution to the Webb community by serving as a bridge between academic and social life. From embracing the creative freedom that Honors Studio Art offers to playing her best as a varsity tennis athlete, Kristine will no doubt delicately balance the rigor that Webb encourages with her love of “hygge” and spending time with the people she cares about.  Favorite Song: "Ticking" by Zach Bryan
