During Monday lunch, the usually lively upper rooms in the Taylor B. Stockdale Community Center, formerly the Hooper Community Center, are instead filled up with students serving 7-10s. Delivered as a result of either three unexcused tardies or one unexcused absence, the large number of students is also an indicator of general community sentiment regarding attendance. “My job is to make sure students show up to class,” said Steven Galarsa, Attendance Coordinator. “The punishments are meant to help the students. They can take advantage of the 7-10 to make up the work they missed during class.”

Better late than never: how Webb’s attendance policy works

In the Hooper Community Center, a crew performed the traditional Chinese dragon dance, surrounded by parents that brought authentic foods to share with the Webb community. Originally, the lion dance and parents were supposed to come together on Monday, however, the organizers of the event combined it with Wednesday community dinner. We wanted to mesh the volunteerism and celebration [of Lunar New Year] with community dinner,” said Ryan Ho, a member of the International Student Liaisons who planned this event. The event ended up being a cultural experience combined with community dinner and formal dress.

The creators of the Webb Spirit Squad, Geniya Parker (‘26), Mia Rooker (‘26), Nicole Samson (‘26), and Maya Chin (‘26) pose outside their station at the Club Fair. They cheered at students the whole fair, gathering in a ton of members, just to be disappointed when afternoon activities schedules interfered with their club plans. Since most games took place around the same time as other afternoon activities, it was difficult for club members to gather. “Yeah, our whole club was super devastated,” Maya said.

Pictured is Claremont Station’s train track. The Claremont station is just an 8-minute drive from The Webb Schools and is located in the Claremont Village. The Station provides Metrolink transport from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. that follows the San Bernardino line. This station offers free parking to all Metrolink passengers, and ticket prices on Saturdays and Sundays are ten dollars per ticket.
