As a child, Michael Ye visited the California Science Center, where a question that would stay with him for the rest of his life was born: how does life work? He remembers spending time in Ms. Billie’s Advanced Studies Anatomy and Physiology course, where he connected with his classmates over this question. For the first time, his childhood question had a classroom built around it. But to press deeper for the answer, he searched through the other science rooms. These efforts took him to the paleontology course, which in turn introduced him to the Wyoming summer peccary trip. To him, this world, tied between the past and present, was indescribable. But just as the life forms he plans to study have a history, so does he. While he’s not fully sure yet, he is currently on a trajectory towards a career in orthopedics. Spending so much time with the physiological and paleontological sciences, Michael fell in love with the neighboring medical world. Attending the University of Chicago in the fall, he plans to major in biological sciences, where life has so much more to offer than just living — if you try hard enough, you can find how that life works.
