Whether it’s through detailed sketches, quiet observations, or the strings of a guitar, Lucy experiences the world through art. Inspired by anime shows like “Detective Conan” during the pandemic, she first began drawing as a creative outlet before it gradually became a way to express emotions that were difficult to put into words. Preferring traditional art over digital media, Lucy especially enjoys drawing people, finding inspiration in the small details of how others interact, move, and express themselves. As someone who describes herself as “thinking more than talking,” she came to see art as both a creative practice and a form of reflection. After transferring to Webb from China as a junior and overcoming social anxiety and a language barrier, Lucy found comfort in the creative communities around her and built meaningful friendships through shared interests in art, music, and Japanese culture. Outside the studio, Lucy spends her time teaching herself guitar, listening to Japanese rock music, and appreciating the quieter moments spent talking with friends. This fall, she will attend the Rhode Island School of Design, where she hopes to continue exploring new forms of artistic expression while growing alongside a community of other artists.
