If the walls of South Hutch and Jones could talk, they would tell the story of Aurora Deng. Leaving Beijing, Aurora found warmth in Webb’s dorm life, where her reserved nature softened through late-night conversations with her roommate in both South Hutch and Jones, Webb Idol choreography, and boba runs that turned ordinary nights into some of her strongest memories. That same comforting rhythm carried into the orchestra, where Aurora spent all four years playing viola and found another place where listening closely mattered just as much as playing her own part. Through concerts, Aurora found a steady place to grow more comfortable expressing herself. Over time, that confidence extended beyond music into dance, a passion she had loved for years and only began exploring more fully as a sophomore. Aurora’s interest in environmental science began with TOEFL science questions and grew at Webb, where the greenery around campus made her pay closer attention to the world. As she heads to the University of Southern California to study environmental science, Aurora leaves Webb with the same warmth she found in the dorms, ready to build community wherever she goes next.
