Rick Duque, Dean of Students, strikes a pose after walking down Hooper Community Center, placing an index finger in front of his mouth. Although he didn’t exactly know what he was going for when making this costume, he knew he wanted to have fun with it. “I was trying to emulate the person on my shirt with my glasses and my pose. I was a shmorgishborg of designs,” Mr. Duque said when describing his costume.

From the moment young Emily Thornton (‘25) slipped into her purple helmet, pink fairy wings, and a cascade of pearl necklaces, she expressed her own definition of fashion creatively. Student government meets in the Fawcett library to discuss the budget and decorations for the Winter Formal. Since Homecoming at the start of November, members of the student government have been diligently planning another exciting event, which will take place at Webb. “The Winter Formal Committee and I all hope for a fun event that will uplift community spirit during a time of stress and hard work,” said Albert Luo (‘27), sophomore vice president . Student leaders finalize plans including the budget, decorations, and assignment of roles, hoping for community engagement and a time where everyone can de-stress and have fun.
StuGov serves the community yet again: Webb’s Winter Formal
From making your morning latte to producing a hit song, Judcody Limon is a man of many talents. When not working at Webb, you can find him experimenting with beats and writing lyrics. "I'm feeling confident enough about [making music] to where I'm pushing out my own stuff as opposed to holding off until I feel good enough about it,” said Judcody Limon.

Students from Advanced Studies Fascism, a class that explores the rise and impact of fascist regimes, conduct research for their final projects. “Webb classes allow me to explore topics that I’m interested in. I feel like I have improved significantly as a writer,” Joyce Zhao (‘27) said. Like many other Advanced Studies humanities courses at Webb, Advanced Studies Fascism was created by a faculty member and challenges students to critically analyze historical events.
What makes Webb’s Advanced Studies humanities classes unique?
Jayden Kuo (‘26) approaches the Toy Drive stand located in Stockdale Community Center to ask the prefects on duty, Jacky Qi (‘25), Simon Xu (‘26), and Anna Zeng (‘25), how he can participate in helping give back to communities with toy donations. “We encourage more students to make donations to help make the holiday season full of joy for family shelters and other local community organizations,” Jacky said. The Toy Drive is looking forward to a week of holiday kindness!
Giving beyond Webb: Toy Drive spreads holiday joy to other communities
Annalise Centeno (’26) and Ella Berg (’26) peacefully sit on Huntington Beach with the company of Dr Nguyen’s corgi, Ein. Although the weather was foggy, the beach was still filled with other corgis and attendees. “I really enjoyed relaxing on the beach near the ocean, along with the company of so many puppies,” Annalise Centeno (’26) said. The event was a huge success.

Webb campus buzzed with rounds and rounds of Homecoming proposals in the days preceding the dance. Friends were around and helped with posters all in preparation for these special moments before the dance. “I think it's a great way to bond and a fabulous way to develop relationships,” Jessica Lu (‘27) said. She believes that the mood and vibe of Homecoming asks help connect people throughout campus and make memories for those involved.

Hanbo Xu ('25), in his formal attire, enjoys a glass of apple cider, one of the many refreshments available during the pre-prom reception in front of the Alf Museum. “The cider was extremely extravagant, lavish, and rich, while the food looked very appetizing,” Hanbo said. “Holding these delicate cups made me feel like Gatsby. The toppings on the cupcakes glistened in the sun, as mouthwatering flavors invited a tsunami of joy in my brain.”

USA men’s water polo team makes a splash at Webb
As Webb students depart from campus to enjoy the rest of the holiday season, it provides the perfect time to look back and see how Webb decorated their spaces to celebrate this festive season. This year, the Price Dining Hall is displaying a gorgeous, 20-foot Christmas tree, beautifully lit and decorated. Lighting up the Christmas trees with various colorful ornaments, Webb’s community service afternoon activity contributed greatly to the setup and assembling of the artificial tree. “It was very fun to set up the tree and bring holiday cheer!” Frannie Hinch (‘25) said. For many others, decorating the campus for community service has been rewarding to see the joy they bring to students, faculty, and staff.

Students sit around the fireplace, roasting marshmallows and apples on sticks before the party begins. The party was at the Upper Dorms this year, decorated with Christmas lights. “I hope the party brings the community together, as well as dorm spirit and everything because it's towards the end of the year," said Arthur Lu (‘24), a dorm prefect. “Many people are getting tired. We want to raise the holiday spirit for the last week of school finals.”

In the evening sun, students gathered at the museum steps in a chaotic mass. Some students took photos. Others waited for friends. And yet more continuously readjusted their clothing. But most attendees were wondering where the buses were. “It’s already 5:15,” said Ryan Ho (25’). “I thought the bus would be here by now.”

Daira Kaufman, Webb’s choreographer for the dance company instructs the whole dance team. Ms. Kaufman has been choreographing the dancers in many different styles of dancing to perform for the dance show. ”Styles and themes include contemporary dance, jazz, hip hop, K-pop, ballet, dance theater, dance as political satire, dance as resistance, a Community Dinner like you've never seen before, and so much more,” said Ms. Kaufman.

During her free block in Stockdale Community Center, Emma Kaivan-Mehr (‘27) reads an NBC News article titled “Trump won the Presidency. Here’s what he’s said he’ll do.” “I didn’t see many people affected positively or negatively by the election,” Emma said. This lack of emotion concerning Trump’s reelection was prevalent in the Webb community post-election.
Donald Trump’s reelection: why Webbies should care
Tyler Liu (‘25), a local day student, runs alongside West Baseline Road. Here, the road is riddled with imperfections and hasty patches, though there may be hope for a solution soon. The City of Claremont began a near $2 million citywide street resurfacing project approved at the May 28 City Council meeting. This project, which will span from Indian Boulevard to Towne Avenue, has locals hoping that this is a precursor to changes across all streets. “I can definitely feel some bumps while driving to school,” Tyler said.

Evelyn Fu (‘27), a Webb wrestler, grabs her opponent’s legs as the teams watch inattentively. As Evelyn scores 3 points for her takedown, the crowd erupts into cheers. “I want [the wrestlers] to lock into the present moment because the present moment is all we have,” said Rieanna Duncan, the girls’ head wrestling coach. The wrestling team won both schools in the tri-school meet with confidence, and both the coaches and athletes look forward to more matches in the future.
Webb wrestlers kick off season with their first home game of the year
Isamar Theobald (‘25), Jarra Jallow (‘25), and Frannie Hinch (‘25) exit Target, one of the stops on the Webb Loop, and make their way back to the van to return to Webb. On the Webb Loop they made stops at both Claremont Village and Target. “It was super convenient and fun that we got the chance to pick up some Philz Coffee then get picked up by the Webb Loop to head over to Target,” Isamar said. Overall, students have been relaying positive feedback to this new form of weekend transportation.

On December 12, 2024, at the Webb Schools' Jones dormitory, Sandy Li ('27) brought spooky vibes to campus. Sandy channeled her love for scary movies with a playful, eerie pose, evoking classic horror-inspired energy. "I really like scary movies because I love that rush of adrenaline when something jumps out at me," she said.
