“It’s Andy here on behalf of the Stepping Stones Literary Magazine….” If there is one thing almost everyone at Webb recognizes, it is Andy making Poetry Club competition announcements during community dinner. Whether students are fully listening or only half-paying attention between bites of food, Andy has spent the last four years making writing and creative expression a visible part of campus life. As one of the head editors of the Webb Canyon Chronicle, president of Poetry Club, and the founder of Stepping Stones Literary Magazine, he has helped create spaces where students can tell their stories and share their identity openly. Originally from Shenzhen, China, Andy moved to the United States in fifth grade, never agreeing with the memorization-based English education in China, so he turned to writing as an outlet to better express his feelings. Outside of writing, you would find him competing in a CIF tennis match or taking naps on the science building couches during lunch. Andy balances his productivity with breaks where he can do the things he truly loves. Though he will be heading to Columbia University next year, Andy’s work in creative writing at Webb will prevail.
