On the wrestling mat, Richard Chiu works relentlessly, relying on grit and endurance to bring his opponent down. His eyes are filled with determination and persistence, the model wrestler. However, off the mat, Richard’s Webb experience has been defined by a more relaxed rhythm: late-night moments with friends, long stretches of rest, and a steady appreciation for doing very little on the weekends. One of his most memorable moments at Webb that captures this laid-back rhythm comes from North Hutch at 5 a.m., when Louis Lin fed him cooked beef. He fills much of his downtime in his dorm with shows like “Breaking Bad” and “Hunter x Hunter.” In contrast to his laid-back routine outside the classroom, his advice to his freshman self reflects his conviction to academics: “study harder, try harder.” Richard leaves Webb for the University of Southern California with a mix of late nights, inside jokes, and relaxing routines that shaped his experience here.
