It takes a lot more than a broken bone to stop Matthew Jung. A hip injury may have forced him to leave behind the eight years of club soccer he grew up playing, and surgeries in both of his knees eventually pushed him away from football too; but somehow, Matt always finds his way back onto the field. He can be seen helping and supporting his teammates on the varsity volleyball team and, every once in a while, delivering a few powerful smashes of his own. Even when he’s not playing a sport, he’s active in the weight room, repping his squats or chasing a new personal record. That same dedication carries into the people around him too. Whether he’s hanging out with friends in Stockdale, walking around Victoria Gardens, or going on weekend runs to the mall in Rancho Cucamonga, Matt values the time he spends with the people closest to him just as much as he values sports. While he may not be the loudest person in the room, his friends know him as someone dependable, supportive, and always willing to show up when it matters. As he heads to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill next year to study chemistry, one thing is clear: no matter how many setbacks come his way, Matt will always find a way to keep moving forward.
