Ethan Undello, Editor of Sports

Ethan Undello (‘25) loves investigating a good mystery. Ever since he was six, he has loved Gravity Falls and the goofy riddles and plotlines contained within. He loves investigating the causes of violence and war, fascinated with the fight against crime. As such, Ethan has set his sights on becoming an FBI criminal profiler because he understandably hates serial killers and bullies. Yet, he is more than a future FBI investigator. He was raised in Upstate New York, where he developed a love for hiking, fishing, shooting, and, most importantly, sports. Having watched football with his grandparents since he was young, Ethan plays football at Webb and reports on sports at the WCC. In fact, his favorite article he has written tells the story of Webb’s football team and its successes. This year, Ethan hopes to continue investigatory journalism at the WCC.

It is 4:55 PM. Webb’s two upper tennis courts nestled in between the Jameson, Kirkhill, and Appleby dorms, glowing beneath an October sky washed in crimson. Soon, darkness will settle, and with daylight savings pushing sunset an hour earlier, dwindling light will make it tough for the players to carry on. “A few small lights would a nice addition,” said Larry (‘26).

Gianna Rabida (‘27) captures the Bridge Fire raging through Glendora’s Mountains while returning to Webb from an away volleyball game. Since September 8 – the day the fire started – it grew to 10,000+ acres in around two days, leaving Webb students anxious. “I’m afraid that I will have to evacuate my dorm in the middle of the night,” Gianna Rabida said. Boarders at Webb remain alert, anxious about possible evacuations as the fire rages through the Los Angeles and San Bernadino counties.

Starting pitcher and fourth in the batting lineup Ayan Kaushal (‘24) receives wise words from catcher Mikey Pino (‘26) to help kick off the game with a quick inning. Kaushal, this year's baseball team captain, communicates with his catcher with confidence and calmness to ensure that all throw calls are understood and the inning goes by smoothly. The WSC Gauls played a strong first playoff game against Calvary Chapel, winning in the last inning 4-3.

Ethan Norman (‘25) and Baylee Canning (‘25) from Claremont High School brightened each other's night at Prom. “I had some help from a close friend, and we sat down for a little bit and came up with multiple sayings and ideas until I found the one,” Ethan said. “I chose which really fit the scheme of my proposal and ideals.” Once he developed the perfect idea, he surprised her on her way home from soccer hoping to light up her night.

As she sits and prepares to work on her homework, Emily Thornton (‘25) looks through her playlists deciding which would be best to listen to. Looking for the perfect mix of songs to help set a mindset that will lead to success, Emily chooses her gym playlist. “Not having music in when doing something is pointless. Especially with homework, my music is what keeps me going,” Emily said. Having hopes that it will increase her energy and encourage her to keep going, like it does when she is working out.

Webb students of all different grades cheer as students Tony Gao (‘26) and Julia Fenner (‘23) battle it out in the middle of Stockdale center as Eric Hansen, Humanities Department faculty, refereed the event. Webb night was packed with different games and events, and as students began to disperse from arm wrestling, they headed over to the activity they had signed up for or just to cheer on fellow classmates.

The Hooper Community Center is one of the first buildings you see when walking onto the Webb campus. The old building stands as a symbol of welcoming as it greets you with its newly refurbished interior and beautiful fountain. The building will soon undergo a name change in the honor of retiring Head of Schools, Taylor B. Stockdale.
